David has over 36 years of insurance experience, 34 of it in the group and
individual health market.  Upon graduating from Mississippi College, David went to dinner at a young lady’s home on a challenge to see if he could tell the difference between her two brothers – one was an insurance salesman, the other a preacher. 

As it turns out, one was loud and boisterous while the other was quiet and unassuming.  After spending the evening with the family, David realized the quiet, unassuming brother was the successful insurance agent working in the father’s agency.  From there, David joined the agency and the son took David under his wing and taught him the business.

The agency primarily wrote life policies for Mutual Security Life which was eventually purchased by American United Life.  Within two to three years of beginning his career, David migrated to the employee benefits side of the profession.  He found this most rewarding and enjoyed meeting the people as well as the variety he was afforded.

In 1992, David received a letter from American United Life stating he had not produced enough business with the company to remain a ‘company rep’.  David looked at this as a compliment as it meant he was meeting the needs of his clients and not focusing on what any one company wanted him to sell.

When asked of some of his more memorable clients, David talked about a life insurance sale he made to a friend.  At one point the friend called him and wanted to cancel the policy.  David worked with him to take a term policy rather than go without life insurance.  It was a short time later this friend died most unexpectedly.  It gave David great satisfaction when he was able to take an insurance check to the friend’s widow.

David recalls another situation where one of the group disability policies he put in place paid and has continued to pay one of the employees – again the satisfaction of knowing he helped a family. 

David joined Braden Benefit Strategies, Inc. as an Employee Benefits Consultant, a role we are grateful to have him for.  He works primarily with groups under 100 employees and individuals.
